1. FASCIST GERMANY

OLYMPIC GAMES, BERLIN, 1936.

'The work 'Olympics 1936' is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 contains a fascinating account of the magnificent Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a look back at the Olympic Games since 1896 and a preview of the competition of nations in Berlin - these are sets 53 to 56. The series includes 175 images. Volume 2 contains the report on the unique experiences of the Berlin Summer Olympics in 200 pictures - these are sets 57 to 61'. This is a translation from the back of a card. These cards were issued by the Altona Tobacco Co. to celebrate Germany's great Olympic achievement in sets of 25 and 50 in two different formats. There were 9 sets in all and each set seems to made up of randomly numbered cards from the entire series - presumably this was to stimulate and maintain public interest. The cards could then be glued into large albums filled with diagrams, statistics and coloured pictures. I have tried to translate the original German captions as faithfully as possible but Google Translate and I can only achieve so much! My comments and additions are added in brackets. These pictures are published for pleasure/information/research purposes only and are not for sale or copy under any circumstances. Information in captions has been researched as thoroughly as possible but its accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

I appear to have mislaid this card at some point between scanning and now. Germany won all three team Gold Medals in the Equestrian events so this could be any of those teams. I think that this is the Dressage team as the chap on the right appears to be Hermann Leopold August von Oppeln-Bronikowski.
