FENLAND CLASS 03, 08 & 09

Included here are pictures all taken between Peterborough East Junction and Ely North Junction, all of the Queen Adelaide crossings included and the erstwhile Wisbech Branch. Some of the old 35mm slides from the '80's are a bit blurry but then those were the days of 65ASA film, 1/125th and Focus DIY. These are probably best looked at in large format. 08580 shunts ballast wagons into March Up Yard, 05/08/96. This engine was withdrawn 01/06 and is now operated by RMS Locotec.

  • 08418 is Travelling Pilot and is propelling this Engineer's train wrong road back to Whitemoor to turn it, 01/06/87.
  • 08418, 08412, 08358, 08549, 08427, 08438 and 08516 line up at March Depot, 04/06/88, about half of them withdrawn.
  • 08427, sans coupling rods, at March Depot, 03/88. This loco was officially withdrawn in November 1986 but I'm sure that it was still in use well after that date.
  • 08427, withdrawn 11/86, and 08518, withdrawn 05/86, have been dumped in the steam shed sidings with a rake of redundant brakevans, 28/07/87.
  • 08493 and 08427 shunt around the Depot at March, 28/09/84.
  • 08493 drags 25195 towards March Depot from March Down Loop, 25/10/84.
  • 08493 is Travelling Pilot and is working a rake of LWR wagons back to Whtiemoor, 25/10/84.
  • 08496 stands next to the crane siding at March Depot, sans coupling rods, for a wheelset change, 08/09/85.
  • 08518 dumped in the old steam shed sidings, withdrawn the previous May, here in 04/87.
  • 08521 is parked in Hundred Road Sidings at March Depot, 10/05/87, en route from Stratford to Derby Works.
  • 08526 crosses Station Road LC en route from March Down Yard to Whitemoor, 06/81.
  • 08526 shunts stock in the Up Reception Sidings at Whitemoor, 03/03/86.
  • 08529 is temporarily residing at March Depot en route to Works, 23/06/88.
  • 08531 is on March Depot in transit from Stratford to Doncaster Works, 01/05/88.
  • 08538 is stabled in March Up Yard, allocated for pilot duties, 07/03/97. This loco was withdrawn 12/09.
  • 08538, long-time March Depot resident, on Depot, 03/88.
  • 08540 shunts stock for the Whitemoor - Kings Lynn Speedlink, 13/06/88.
  • 08540, a long time March shunter, 10/87.
  • 08580 is in Whitemoor Yard in transit from Doncaster Works, 07/85. At one time this loco was Northampton Pilot and eventually a Whitemoor Pilot too.
  • 08580 shunts ballast wagons into March Up Yard, 05/08/96. This engine was withdrawn 01/06 and is now operated by RMS Locotec.
