FENLAND MISCELLANEOUS STOCK

Included here are pictures all taken between Peterborough East Junction and Ely North Junction, all of the Queen Adelaide crossings included and the erstwhile Wisbech Branch. Some of the old 35mm slides from the '80's are a bit blurry but then those were the days of 65ASA film, 1/125th and Focus DIY. These are probably best looked at in large format. Class 317 511 speeds towards Manea as 5Q69 Ely Papworths - Kingsbury EMR Sidings, 37884 CEPHEUS at the head, for scrapping, 19/05/23.

  • 43006 in special IC livery shares the sidings at Ely North Junction with a number of it's sisters, 11/05/21.
  • 43238 has not moved from Siding 3 in a long while although ex-EMR Class 153 357 is a more recent arrival, 26/04/22.
  • 43238 still sits at the top of Road 4 at Papworth's, going nowhere, 26/09/22.
  • 43320 sits at the head of a rake of stock at Papworth's, with 43206, as 43006, sitting behind it, 26/09/22.
  • A fourth row is headed by 317882 at Papwoth's, 17/02/23.
  • Although recently thinned out a little by excursions to Newport, these three sidings are head by 317339, 317508 and 317881 at Papworth's, 17/02/23.
  • At the head of the line of HST power cars is 43238, with ex-LNER sisters. at Papworth's, 17/02/23, and........
  • Class 43 HST power car 43017 and a sister lurk in the depths of Papworth's yard at Ely North Junction with a pair of Class 317's behind them
  • Class 153 - redundant EMR Class 153's in store at Papworth's, Ely, with 43023 to their right, 06/10/20.
  • Class 153's, Nos.301, 351, 315 and 304 have not moved from here for quite some time at Papworth's, 26/09/22.
  • Class 302 EMU stock stabled in March Up Yard en route for breaking at Mayer Newman, Snailwell, 02/86.
  • Class 305 426 heads a long line of scrap EMU stock in the steam shed sidings at March en route to Mayer Newman's flame tunnel at Snailwell, 12/84. The 'Jazz Train' sticker is nothing to do with music but a reference to the nickname that Liverpool Street services had in the steam era, when I believe it was the most intensive suburban railway service in the world.
  • Class 305 437 spends the weekend at Whitemoor Yard en route for Mayer Newman's Scrapyard at Snailwell, 01/12/85.
  • Class 306 058, looking somewhat the worse for wear, heads a rake of withdrawn GE EMU stock on March Depot, en route for the flame tunnel at Mayer Newman, Snailwell, 12/84.
  • Class 317 - 371 671 and 317 662, ex Greater Anglia, repose in store at Papworth's, Ely, either side of a rake of ex GWR and ex LNER HST stock, 317 722 mothballed on the right, 06/10/20.
  • Class 317 511 speeds towards Manea as 5Q69 Ely Papworths - Kingsbury EMR Sidings, 37884 CEPHEUS at the head, for scrapping, 19/05/23.

  • Class 317 722, previously the Porterbrook demonstrator, shares the storage sidings at Ely North Junction with ex-GWR 43191 and ex-LNER 43311, 11/05/21.
