No.2 KATHLEEN - 4-4-0T built 1887 by Robert Stephenson & Co., Works No.2613 - 1925 to GSR, 1945 to CIE - withdrawn 1960.

  • ARIGNA STATION - The terminus of the Cavan & Leitrim and the location of Ireland's only coal mine. Coal from this mine was the C&L's main source of income until a power station was built here in 1958.
  • BALLINAMORE LOCOMOTIVE DEPOT - Locomotives 2L, 3T and 4T at Ballinamore Sheds in 1953. No.2L, a 4-4-0T, was built as KATHLEEN in 1887 by Robert Stephenson & Co., Works No.2613 and withdrawn by the CIE in 1960. No.3T, a 2-6-0T, was built in 1889 by Hunslet Engine Co., Works No.478, for the Tralee & Dingle Railway and transferred to the C&L when the T&D closed in 1953. No.4T, also a 2-6-0T from the T&D, was built in 1903 by Kerr Stuart & Co., Works No.836, as T&D No.8, renumbered to No.4 in 1908. 3T was withdrawn in 1954 and 4T in 1959.
  • Ballinamore Station,  operations centre of the railway, which closed in March 1959, seen here some time after that with all track removed. Note engine sheds to the right.
  • BALLINAMORE STATION - Seen here in the early 1900's. This is actually the broad gauge station but a C&L train may be seen just tucked away behind the footbridge on the right,
  • GREAT SOUTHERN RAILWAYS TICKET - First Class Return to blank destination. Ballinamore was the junction for the branch to Arigna.
  • GREAT SOUTHERN RAILWAY TICKET - Bicycle Return from Ballyconnell to any station between 15 and 25 miles away - the C&L was absorbed in the GSR in 1925.
  • No.1 ISABEL - 4-4-0T built in 1887 by Robert Stpehenson & Co., Works No.2612 - 1925 to GSR, 1945 to CIE - withdrawn 1949
  • No.1 ISABEL - 4-4-0T built in 1887 by Robert Stpehenson & Co., Works No.2612 - 1925 to GSR, 1945 to CIE - withdrawn 1949 - seen here at Dromod on a train to Ballinamore in 1932.
