IRISH RAILWAY MISCELLANY
CORAS IOMPAIR EIREANN TICKET - RAIL TOUR OF IRELAND - This was a tour jointly organised by the SLS, RCTS and IRRS and the itinerary was staggering. Two rakes of passenger stock were used, mainly a rake of 5 modern CIE coaches including buffet car and 4-wheeled brake/luggage van but also 5 six-wheel coaches plus brake van on the trip to Cobh, marked thus (+). Diesel locos were used where steam locomotives had failed and there was no steam substitute available. It must be borne in mind that many of the steam locos were very old, in poor condition and many were withdrawn the following year.
