LOCOMOTIVES OF THE LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Alright, so I'm a numpty and went and accidentally deleted all 20,000 odd of my steam loco pictures. I'd been meaning to reorganise for some time so now I have the perfect opportunity. Please bear with me as I undertake this mammoth task. These pictures are published for pleasure/information/research purposes only and are not for sale or copy under any circumstances. Information in captions has been researched as thoroughly as possible but its accuracy cannot be guaranteed.
PLEASE NOTE : IMPORTANT MESSAGE : Please be aware that I do not sell copies of ANY of my pictures, DO NOT email copies to viewers or allow re-posting on other sites. Neither do I wish to enter into correspondence with any individual or group regarding my pictures or their captions. All comments reflect my personal opinions and I am not prepared to discuss these with anyone or to spend the rest of my life answering inane questions. I apologise for this disclaimer but I'm afraid it has been forced upon me. I have no wish to offend anyone and I hope you will continue to enjoy my pictures at your leisure.

  • 21 SCOTT - J Beattie LSWR Engineer's Dept. 2-4-0T - built 1861 by George England & Co. as S&DR No.11 - 1871 sold to LSWR, No.21 SCOTT - 1904 to LSWR No.15 - 1909 withdrawn - seen here at Fort Brockhurst, 12/00, on loan to Lee-On-Solent Light Railway.<br />
The Lee-on-the-Solent Light Railway was incorporated to build a 3.5 mile line from Fort Brockhurst station on the LSWR Gosport Branch to Lee-on-the-Solent. When line opened on 12 May 1894 there were intermediate stations at Privett and Browndown. At first the company worked its own line, using locomotives borrowed from the LSWR, but from August 1st 1909 the LSWR took over working the line using railmotors, though the company remained nominally independent. On January 4th, 1923, the Southern Railway reluctantly agreed to take over the company. It closed to passengers on 1 January 1931 and to goods traffic on 30 September 1935. The line was lifted during World War II.
