LMS - 9616 - Robinson GCR Class 8K LNWR Class MM ROD 2-8-0 - built 1919 by North British Loco Co., Works No.1787, as ROD No.2820 - subsequently No.2400 - 1919 to LNWR as No.1747, 1923 to LMS as No.9616, 1931 to LMS No.9455 - 1932 withdrawn.
Ex-ROD engines (LMS 9616-65) acquired by the LNWR and LMS before and after the grouping. Of the LNWR acquisitions (9616-45), many did not enter service until too late to receive their allotted LNWR series numbers. The LMS did not seem very enthusiastic about these engines, in spite of their relative newness, and scrapping commenced in 1928. In 1931, 28 of the residual 31 survivors were renumbered 9455-82 to avoid clashing with the numbers of the new Fowler 0-8-0s. All had gone by 1932 and it is interesting to contrast the fate of these engines on the LMS with their considerable success on the LNER and GWR systems. To be fair to them, however, they were faced with extensive LMS route restrictions, being prohibited from virtually the whole of the ex-LYR and ex-MR lines.
