BRITISH RAILWAY TICKETS

I have decided to move all of my British Railway passenger tickets into this gallery as they do rather tend to get in the way and henceforth anyone looking for then will know where to look. This excludes Rail Tour and Open Day tickets, M&GNJR tickets, Irish and various others, all found elsewhere. These pictures are displayed for information/research purposes and cannot be purchased under any circumstances.

LNER TICKET - MARCH to NORWICH THORPE - Military Service Third Class Single - clipped but not dated.

  • LNER TICKET - LEADENHAM - Dog Accompanying Passenger to Caythorpe, fare 3d - dated November 16th, 1960.
  • LNER TICKET - LINCOLN - Third Class Bus Exchange Ticket to Sleaford - I presume that these were issued to cover periods when trains were not running for some reason.
  • LNER TICKET - LIVERPOOL STREET to SHENFIELD - Third Class Single, fare 2s 6d - dated February 28th, 1929.
  • LNER TICKET - MANEA - Third Class Day Excursion to Yarmouth Vauxhall. As the platforms at Manea can only accommodate two coaches, loading a 10 or 12 coach excursion would have been fun.
  • LNER TICKET - MANEA - Third Class Military Service Single - Manea was such a minor station that only frequently used destinations would have been pre-printed on the tickets. All others would have to be handwritten.
  • LNER TICKET - MARCH to NORWICH THORPE - Military Service Third Class Single - clipped but not dated.
  • LNER TICKET - MIDDLE DROVE - Third Class Day Excursion to blank destination - I can't imagine that many excursions ever called at Middle Drove.
  • LNER TICKET - MIDDLETON TOWERS - Third Class Child Single to Kings Lynn, fare 2d. This is a journey of only a few miles.
  • LNER TICKET - MISTLEY to DOVERCOURT BAY - Third Class Day Excursion Return - not much of an excursion - just over 10 miles!
  • LNER TICKET - NEW BARNET to OAKLEIGH PARK - Third Class Single, fare 2d - dated June 15th, 1940.
  • LNER TICKET - NEW HOLLAND to HABROUGH - Third Class Privilege Single.
  • LNER TICKET - PERMIT - This ticket would allow a passenger holding a ticket for use via the Humber Ferry to take an alternative route via either Doncaster or Retford at no extra charge if for any reason the ferry service was suspended.
  • LNER TICKET - PETERBOROUGH EAST - Third Class Single to Whittlesea - fare 11d.
  • LNER TICKET - PETERBOROUGH EAST to ATTLEBOROUGH - Third Class Furlough Single, undated.
  • LNER TICKET - POLMONT to EDINBURGH WAVERLEY - Third Class Single, fare 3s 6d - clipped but not dated.
  • LNER TICKET - SIBLE & CASTLE HEDINGHAM - First Class Child Day Return to Yeldham, fare 9d - dated October 26th, 1951. Both stations were located on the former Colne Valley & Halstead Railway.
  • LNER TICKET - SOUTHMINSTER to BURNHAM ON CROUCH - Third Class Child Day Return, fare 6d.
  • LNER TICKET - SPALDING - Third Class Bus Exchange Single to Peterborough North. Valid on Eastern Counties buses also.
  • LNER TICKET - SWAFFHAM - Third Class Single to East Winch, fare 2s 1d - dated March 31st, 1962.
  • LNER TICKET - WALKERINGHAM - Third Class Child Half Day Excursion to Kings Cross - dated October 27th, 1935. I assume that this is a specimen for an excursion planned by a local group or school, submitted for approval. Walkeringham had a railway station at that time but presumably there was no convenient service to Gainsborough Lea Road. A half day excursion to Kings Cross couldn't have allowed much time in London.
