OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (1) - This was a really low-key affair held over the weekend of 12/13th September, 1998, to celebrate rail traffic into Boston Docks. I don't know why 990 'Henry Oakley' was here but it was withdrawn in 1937 from Lincoln Depot and many of these engines ended their days on the easy gradients and light loads of the Lincolnshire flatlands including the Ivatt 4-4-0's and Robinson's GCR Atlantics. The little boy is my grandson. - he loved it, even better than the Toton Open Day!

• OPEN DAY - ASHFORD CHART LEACON DEPOT, 1992 - Held over the weekend on June 6/7th, 1992, the depot management had pulled in quire a line up for this event, including steam powered shuttles to and from the depot, included in the princely entrance fee of £1! This appears to be the only open day they ever held. Rolling Stock present was:-
• OPEN DAY - BARMOUTH, 1992 - Exhibition held at Barmouth Station over the weekend of October 10/11th, 1992, to celebrate 125 years of the Cambrian Coast Line. I have been unable to find any details of what was on display.

• OPEN DAY - BARROW HILL DEPOT, 1979 (1) - Held on October 7th, 1979, this open day would have answered the prayers of many enthusiasts. Off the beaten track in a maze of freight only lines, Barrow Hill was one of those hard-to-get-to depots that was always brimming with interesting stuff. 56034 was only just over 2 years old, whilst 76041 had only a year left in traffic. • OPEN DAY - BARROW HILL DEPOT, 1979 (2) - A potted history of the locoshed at Barrow Hill. It was built initially to serve the needs of the adjacent Staveley Steel & Iron Works and, in the steam age, was home to a motley collection of very old shunting engines. The depot was LMS territory as 18D until 1958 when it became 41E on the Eastern Region. It's allocation of mainly old MR engines didn't change though. All passenger services ceased in 1954 but I do remember going that way once on a diversion in about 1973 and being totally amazed by this hidden wonderland. In 1979, the depot was handling 3,700,000 tons of coal a year, of which over 2,000,000 came from Markham Colliery.

• OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (2) - 990 HENRY OAKLEY - Ivatt GNR Class C2 4-4-2 - built 05/1898 by Doncaster Works as GNR No.990 - 1924 to LNER No.3990 - 10/37 withdrawn from Lincoln MPD - preserved at NRM, York.
• OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (3) - D2112 - BR Class 03 0-6-0DM - built 12/60 by Doncaster Works - 01/73 to BR No.03112 - 07/87 withdrawn from 50C Hull Botanic Gardens - 1991 to NVR, hired out to work the steel traffic into Boston Docks - 07/12 sold to Rother Valley Railway.
• OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (4) - D3871 - BR Class 08 0-6-0DE - built 02/60 by Horwich Works - 05/74 to 08704 - 11/90 withdrawn from Leicester TMD - 01/93 to NVR, hired out for use on Boston docks steel traffic - now located at Nemesis Rail, Burton on Trent.
• OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (5) - No.1 THOMAS - built 1947 by Hudswell Clarke, Works No.1800, for the British Sugar Corporation, Woodston - 1973 withdrawn, bought by Peterborough Railway Society - a number of engines at the NVR masquerade as THOMAS but this the principal culprit. I'm not a great fan of the NVR!
• OPEN DAY - BOSTON RAIL 150 (6) - 56091 STANTON - BR Class 56 Type 5 Co-Co - built 06/81 by Doncaster Works - 2005 to Fertis, contract duties in France, 2006 returned to Eastleigh, 12/11 sold to BAR, Washwood Heath, undergoing restoration to traffic. T think this loco was on display as it was fresh from the big Toton Open Day on a few weeks beforehand. It also later ended up at the NVR for a period.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1985 (1) - Family Ticket for the Open Day at Mantle Lane Sidings, Coalville, Sunday September 1st, 1985. The line from Leicester to Coalville and Burton opened in 1833 and was closed to passengers in 1964, remaining open for busy coal and aggregates traffic thereafter, the small depot at Mantle Lane closing in 1990, although the line is still well used by aggregates traffic. Being off the beaten track, it was difficult to get to and the Open Days were always very popular, especially as they allowed passenger travel over an otherwise freight only route. Open Day 1985 was the third to be held. 33033/33052 had brought the F&W 'Coalville Slug' Rail Tour from Penzance(!), which was taken on to Matlock by 58018. Most of the other locos had come from nearby, either Derby or Toton, or were preserved.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1985 (2) - A map of Mantle Lane Depot, taken from the 1989 Programme as it was the best one (no point putting them all in! - they're all the same). As can be seen, the depot was only very small and had no fuelling points or resident fitters. Nevertheless, Open Days would see quite a lot of exhibits packed in there and a very healthy public response.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1985 (3) - Cover of the 1985 Souvenir Programme. Even as far back as 1985, it was not an expensive day out.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1985 (4) - As is unfortunately the case very often at Open Days, the rolling stock line-up on the day was not as anticipated. S&D 2-8-0 13809 didn't turn up. Still plenty to see though and 10p for a go on TOPS, a rare treat in 1985.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1985 (5) - The timetable for special passenger trains laid on the Open Day. By my reckoning, there are three diagrams here.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1986 (1) - Cover of the Souvenir Programme from the Open Day on Sunday, June 1st, 1986. I like the logo - very clever.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1986 (2) - A rundown of the stock to be on show. For once, they seem to have all turned up.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1986 (3) - This Open Day was unusual in that no Rail Tours were run in conjunction with it. Midland Mainline services to London were diverted via Melton Mowbray and Corby for the day.
• OPEN DAY - COALVILLE FREIGHT DEPOT, 1986 (4) - The timetable of specials being run in conjunction with the Open Day. I can find records of 2 DMU sets being used on the day but there seem to be three diagrams here to me. The sets I have identified are:-
